Description

The Beadsmith’s Applique Scissors are the perfect tool for seamstresses, dressmakers, and costume creators. An applique cutter has an interesting blade, also known as a paddle, a duckbill, or a pelican. Regardless of what you call it, the cutter serves the same main purpose – to protect your fabric. The paddle prevents you from cutting the stitches or the part of the fabric you want to keep intact. The design features an angled handle, which elevates your hand, allowing the blade to lay really flat on the material.

The duckbill scissors can be used in two ways. The first method is sliding the paddle blade under the fabric, to push it away and upward, allowing the sharp blade to be very close to the stitching. In the other way you put the paddle against the material, protecting it as you cut around the applique. Both options work well, and it really is a personal preference.

The scissors are 6 inches in length, with a 1.75” blade. The fingerholes are 1” in diameter. They are frequently used in the sewing and needlework communities, for those who do machine work, as well as embroidery. Although they are designed for cutting fabric and appliques, they can be used for other tasks such a snipping threads and seams, trimming batting and cutting seam allowances for different widths.
